Medicines Information Network

Medicines Information Network

The Medicines Information Network, that started its operations in 2012, currently has its third operating period underway. The main objectives of the network for 2018–2020 are:

  • to establish multiprofessional, network-based operations to promote reliable medicines information by strengthening the cooperation between working groups within the Medicines Information Network;
  • to raise awareness of the high-quality material produced by the Medicines Information Network and its members and promote its accessibility;
  • to promote the utilisation and impact of reliable medicines information in the implementation of rational pharmacotherapy for patients; and
  • to influence on the implementation of good medicines information practices in the reform of the structure of health and social services. We secure the implementation of good medicines information practices by supporting and promoting the deployment of the actions related to medicines information practices in the Rational Pharmacotherapy Action Plan. Additionally, one of our principal objectives is to update the National Medicines Information Strategy from 2020 onwards to meet the current and constantly changing needs for reliable medicines information.

The Medicines Information Network is coordinated by Fimea and the Medicines Information Coordination Group. Additionally, the network includes:

  • Communications team
  • Education working group
  • Research working group
  • Medicines information for professionals working group
  • Medicines information for medicine users working group

In addition to the working groups, the network includes the Medicines Information Forum – users and producers, which is a biannual multidisciplinary discussion forum open to all.

The operation of the network is based on the medicines information development projects pursued by each working group. The operations are based on the National Medicines Information Strategy. The operations of the Medicines Information Network can be followed on the Innokylä website. The Innokylä website hosts memos of the teams' meetings as well as their action plans (in Finnish).
