Report on medicines data repository completed
As part of the pharmaceutical reform of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, a report on medicinal data repository was prepared in 2020. Cooperation on medicinal data management contributes to the rational use of medicines and more goal-oriented development, management, steering and supervision activities.
This report prepared by Fimea describes the objectives, content and functionalities of a national centralised medicinal data repository as well as its future development path. The report was prepared in cooperation with various government agencies and stakeholder groups. The report on medicinal data repository describes the development history of medicinal data management over the long term and the reform needs in the coming years. A centralised medicinal data repository can help to improve the efficiency of authority activities in the medicinal data management. Processes and services related to the production, management and distribution of medicinal product data as well as their availability and accessibility can be improved to meet the needs of different user groups. The solution enables novel use of digitalisation and technologies.
Achievement of the objectives requires cooperation between various stakeholders and will be a result of several years of development work. At this point, it has been identified that there is a need for further development through more detailed definition and planning of the implementation in collaboration with key stakeholders. In the next stage, a coordination group appointed by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health will discuss the results of the report. The aim of this further work is to inform national decision-making.
