Medicines and medical devices in beauty care – support from new learning environment

A new online learning environment offers easily approachable versatile information on services in the field of beauty care and on requirements,  instructions, and legislation connected with the products and services. The goal of the learning environment is to support students in the field as well as both beginning and more experienced operators in various situations and to help them find accurate information. Fimea is the decision-making authority in matters related to the medicinal products and medical devices.

The learning environment in the beauty care field offers information in a comprehensive and clear manner which has previously been difficult to find. Taking part in the development work have been the Finnish Medicines Agency (Fimea), the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK), the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes) and the National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health (Valvira). 

Finnish Medicines Agency Fimea is the authority that monitors medicines and medical devices in Finland. With the development of the beauty care field, and the growth in both commercial imports and those of private individuals, problematic situations related to medicines and medical devices have also increased. Fimea offers guidance in questions involving the categorisation and marketing of medicines and medical devices. 

The learning environment is part of the Tukes service called “I know my products”, which offers educational materials from different branches of industry. The learning environment offers practical information on matters such as setting up a beauty care salon and importing products. Using the service is free of charge and does not require signing up, which means that the learning environment can be used by anyone who is interested in the topic in updating their skills and knowledge. In the learning environment it is also possible to test one’s own skills and knowledge concerning different topics.
