Fimea to open new office in Oulu
This summer, the Finnish Medicines Agency (Fimea) will open a new office in Oulu. The Agency already operates in five locations. Its headquarters is in Kuopio, but in addition to the office now opening in Oulu, the Agency has offices in Helsinki, Tampere and Turku.
"The most important thing to us is professional and expert personnel, and we want to take advantage of the opportunities provided by digitalisation," says Sari Kujala, Director of Internal Services. “Our multiple location-approach not only secures Fimea’s operating capacity, but also promotes the safety of medicine users as well as the activities of pharmaceuticals and medical equipment sector actors.”
Responsibility for the supervision of medical devices, actors in the field and device research were transferred from Valvira to Fimea at the beginning of 2020. "We believe that multi-location activities also give us a great edge in these supervisory duties. We have recently noticed that Fimea is a desirable workplace and that the successful recruitment of skilled personnel regardless of location can only increase our attractiveness in recruitment situations,” says Kujala.
Fimea’s Oulu office is located on the campus of the Oulu University Hospital in Kastelli Research Center at Aapatie 1. The same building also houses the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health, the University of Oulu and a number of companies in the health and well-being sector. In accordance with the Government Premises Strategy, whenever possible, central government agencies also utilise shared facilities, such as the lobby and social facilities and meeting rooms.
