Fimea developes the pharmaceutical care and sector
In addition to its roles as a licensing and supervisory authority, the Finnish Medicines Agency (Fimea) also has the statutory duties of national coordination and research in the pharmaceutical sector and assessment of pharmacotherapies.
In its research and development activities, Fimea cooperates with other authorities, universities, research institutions, social welfare and health care units and other actors in the sector, both nationally and internationally.
22.6.2017 Fimea met its profit targets for 2016
- compiles, produces, evaluates and distributes evidence-based impartial information on pharmaceuticals to the general public, to social welfare and health care professionals, and for the needs of public decision-making,
- develops the effectiveness and safety of the pharmaceutical sector, pharmaceutical service and pharmacies,
- conducts research in pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacoeconomy and pharmaceutical policy, and
- produces and collects evaluations of the therapeutic and economic value of medicines and coordinates cooperation in this area.
