We ensure the safety and availability of human and veterinary medicines and their rational use by:

  • ensuring pharmacovigilance and targeting our monitoring activities to areas where they count
  • promoting the sensible use of medicines as part of the comprehensive care of a patient
  • assessing the therapeutic and economic value of medicines
  • actively promoting the availability of medicines and development of pharmaceutical services
  • generating and transferring information on pharmaceuticals
  • engaging in assessment, research and collaboration operations within the pharmaceutical sector
  • collaborating actively with our stakeholders

We promote the interests of Finnish healthcare in the networks of the European pharmaceutical sector by:

  • increasing the importance of our expertise on EU bodies and European pharmaceutical sector networks
  • actively seeking international tasks related to marketing authorisation and monitoring
  • emphasising biological medicines, medicines that are significant from a public health perspective, personalised pharmacotherapy and generic medicines
  • participating actively as a partner in the Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Network

We support innovations and provide advice to the pharmaceutical sector throughout the lifespan of a medicine by:

  • offering guidance to promising innovative drugs by providing structured special advisory
  • promoting operations related to clinical trials
  • participating actively in rational discussions on medicines and pharmacotherapies
  • easing the administrative burden of organisations
