Fimea directs and supervises blood service and tissue establishment activity in Finland. Legislation concerning blood service activity aims to ensure the quality and safety of human blood and its components used for blood transfusions or other therapeutic purposes.

The purpose of tissue legislation is to ensure the quality and safety of human tissues, organ transplants and cells intended for human application.
